Richard M. Allen, 50, of Delphi, Indiana, was taken into custody by Indiana State Police on Wednesday, and he was formally charged with the February 2017 murders of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, on Friday, according to an investigation statement.
The two adolescents vanished on February 13, 2017, along a trail near their hometown of Delphi, approximately sixty miles north of Indianapolis. The following day, their bodies were discovered in a forested region.
He is charged with two counts of murder. At his initial hearing, he pled not guilty, and a pre-trial date has been set for January 13, 2023. He is currently being held in the White County Jail without bond.
During the multiyear investigation, the Delphi Double Homicide task force comprised of federal, state, and local law enforcement issued two separate sketches of the suspect. The evidence was caught on German's cellphone around the time of her death, authorities stated at the time.
In a statement released on Monday, investigators stated, "This task team has worked tirelessly for the past five and a half years to ensure this heinous crime was not left unsolved."
These agencies contributed numerous hours and resources to the investigation.
Investigators have not speculated on a motive and have not stated what, if any, link Allen may have had with the two victims besides residing in the same city. In addition, it is unclear whether Allen is the individual depicted in either of the composite sketches or what evidence police have against him.
